It turns out that "shocking" just wasn’t good enough for the radio station I listen to that carried Opie and Anthony. They've canceled the show that was aired as a replay in the afternoon. A replay. How hard is it for some DJ to come in, place the tape in the player, press play and then not do anything for the next three hours except run local commercials? I guess it was just too expensive to have a pre-recorded show do all the work.
Come on! On some days of my job this is the highlight of my day! It helped me get through the last few hours of work by having something funny play in the background. It's certainly more entertaining to listen to than the same music I've heard played over and over all week.
And what did they replace the show with? A no name DJ that plays music I've been hearing all morning! Seriously, how many times do they think I can stand hearing the same songs three times a day? At least with Opie and Anthony I could expect something new everyday.
There wasn't even any warning. Suddenly I hear some announcement that Opie and Anthony are gone and the future is more music! Poof! Just like that.
Some good news though. I was able to find another radio station that carried the show at a time when I can hear it. The only problem is that it's through that station's website so I have to stream online to get it. I'm hoping that the system administrator wont make an issue out of it when I'm sucking up all of the office's bandwidth.
So guess what? The radio station I was listening to lost a listener by trying to clog up the airways with more music. They took out one of the few unique shows to listen to in my area to play more songs that I can hear on several other stations. Way to be original.
As you can see from my above post I wasn't too happy with this outcome. I can't believe I'm the only one that feels this way. Maybe it will come back at a later date but with the economic hoopla that's been going on lately I doubt it will be soon. It's disappointing because it's just another sign that businesses are trying to be "safe" and do whatever they can to cut costs. I don't know if it will work or not but it didn't work for me.
