Well, I'm finally all done. After over a year of work, Fighter's Pride is complete.
I have some final thoughts I'd like to get out. First, this whole story started because I was fed up with reading through so many stories that just didn't get the series of Ranma 1/2. Don't get me wrong, there are fics coming out that are very well thought out and great reads. However, for every jewel I came across, there were layers of crap on top of them. It got to the point where I figured even I could write something better.
After a few years, I decided to do just that.
Now, I don't think Fighter's Pride is the best of the best. There are several stories that I could point to that I think are better. Heck, many of those same stories I took inspiration from. I do think though that my story is pretty good and I'm glad I was able to add it to the list of fanfiction out there.
Secondly, there just weren't enough Shampoo fics. I'm a big fan of hers and I was getting really depressed reading through so many stories and seeing her character used in the same way every time. I wanted to even out things as it were.
Lastly, I wanted to write something fun and playful while also trying to develop the characters in believable ways. There are too many dark and angst stories out there. It seemed that everyone was basing their ideas off of a show that I had never watched before. Ranma 1/2 was a comedy during its run. There were serious moments but overall it was very silly. However, too many fics were taking the characters and warping them into unrecognizable creatures of stereotypes and assholes. I wanted to liven things up a bit and maybe show others that it doesn’t have to get too serious to make a story where the characters change.
Given the responses I got, I think I managed to do that.
As for new stories, I do have other ideas but I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to write them. I tell ya, I was really losing my enthusiasm for doing this. It got to the point where it felt like I was doing homework rather than something that I enjoyed. I'm not sure why that is. But it's over now and perhaps somewhere down the line I'll get the bug in me to do another one.
